Parenting Counselling Centre Varsi Oy provides child protection and social welfare support services according to a uniform working model. The aim of our work is simple but significant: to bring about a concrete and lasting change in the family’s everyday life and reduce the need for more burdensome and long-term support.
We believe that change comes not just from talking, but from working together. That’s why our work combines insightful discussions with active, everyday practice. Families are supported in building new ways of working in concrete ways, in the very situations where everyday life happens.
The work is carried out as part of the social work client process, in close cooperation with the social worker. The focus is on building a trusting working relationship, without which there can be no lasting change.
What is at the heart of the model of parenting empowerment?
Our model focuses on the things that have the biggest impact on the smooth running of everyday life:
- strengthening parenting
- developing mental capacity
- to support interaction
- improving the functionality of everyday life
The work takes place in the family’s own everyday life. This means that change is not built in theory, but in practice, together with the family.
A clear structure brings security and results
The work will progress in stages over three-month periods. This allows both planning and flexibility: work can be deepened, lightened or continued according to the family’s situation.
The process consists of three steps:
start, active work and end.
In the initial phase, the most important thing is to get to know each other and build trust. At the same time, a common understanding of the family’s situation is established and goals are set. According to clients’ experience, this is a crucial stage, as trust is built and more difficult issues can be dealt with safely.
The active phase focuses on change. New ways of working are practised in everyday life, interaction is strengthened and the parent is given concrete support in challenging situations. The work is goal-oriented and the active phase can be continued, if necessary, as long as the family’s situation requires it and the social worker assesses the family’s need for support.
The termination phase ensures that the changes are sustainable even without support. The aim is for the family to be as independent as possible in their daily lives.
Not all families need the same
Families’ situations and resources vary, and therefore the work adapts.
Sometimes it is possible to proceed directly to the modification work. Other times, the situation requires stabilisation, calming down, reducing stress and strengthening the basic structures.
The work is always done realistically, based on the family’s situation. This makes the work effective.
Professionalism in everyday life
Our work is based on social guidance and takes the form of concrete, everyday support. We do not stop at the level of discussion, but work together with the family to build workable solutions to everyday situations.
We systematically use neuropsychiatric coaching methods to support executive function, time management, transitions and load regulation. In practice, this means, for example:
- making everyday life clearer
- chopping up tasks
- anticipation and routine building
- the use of fibre-based subsidies
- reducing sensory stress according to the individual needs of family members
This makes everyday life more predictable and reduces stress for the whole family.
Flexible support at the right time
The work adapts to the family’s situation. It can be:
- intensive support in a stressful situation
- regular change work
- lighter maintenance to ensure change
The work is not rigid, but lives with the changing life situations of the family.
How do we know if the work is working?
Effectiveness is monitored throughout the process. Progress is reviewed together with the family and the change is assessed in concrete terms at the level of everyday life.
At the heart of the question:
Does everyday life really change?
For example, we monitor:
- Smooth everyday life
- parental capacity
- load reduction
- benefits experienced by the family
This way, we ensure that the work is not just about meetings, but about making a real difference.
Towards sustainable change
The aim of our work is not to make the family dependent on support, but to strengthen the family’s own resources.
As parents’ understanding of themselves and their child deepens, everyday life changes too.
New ways of dealing with situations are found, interactions are strengthened and stress is eased.
At best, this means that heavier services are not needed at all.
Finally
The work of Parenting Counselling Centre Varsi Ltd is based on the idea that the right support at the right time can make a big difference.
When support is practical, goal-oriented and anchored in the family’s daily life, changes are made that last.
